🌴 What Goa Taught Me About Slowing Down While Working Remotely

I originally came to India thinking Goa would simply be another affordable place to work remotely for a few weeks.

Instead, it completely changed the rhythm of how I travel.

Back home, my days often felt scheduled down to the minute — constant notifications, fast meals, crowded commutes, and the strange feeling that even free time had to be productive.

Goa felt different almost immediately.

Mornings started slower. People actually sat and talked in cafés instead of rushing out with laptops half-open. Some afternoons, work happened from a beach shack with unstable Wi-Fi and surprisingly good coffee. Other days, conversations with travelers lasted longer than planned and turned into friendships I still keep today.

What surprised me most wasn’t the beaches or the cost of living — it was how many people there were quietly rebuilding balance in their lives.

I met:

  • a startup founder from Berlin taking a break from burnout,
  • a designer from Toronto staying for “two weeks” and still there three months later,
  • and a writer from Melbourne who said Goa was the first place in years where she stopped checking emails before sunrise.

India isn’t always effortless travel. It can be intense, emotional, noisy, beautiful, and unpredictable — sometimes all in the same day. But for many remote workers, that’s exactly what makes it meaningful.

If you’re planning a longer stay in India, especially as a digital nomad, the practical side matters too:
âś” prepare your visa early,
âś” keep digital and printed copies of important documents,
âś” avoid overplanning every destination,
âś” and leave space for slower experiences.

Some of the best moments in India happen in the hours you didn’t schedule.
